LONDON -- Welterweight world titleholder Kell Brook, supposedly the smaller man, was a tad heavier than unified middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin at the weigh-in Friday at the O2 Arenas Indigo Club.Brook, with fans from his home country singing and chanting as he stepped on the scale, weighed 159.4 pounds. Golovkin, making his 17th defense, weighed 159 for the 160-pound world title bout, which will take place Saturday (HBO, 5:30 p.m. ET/PT) at the sold-out O2 Arena.Brook, 30, is moving up two weight divisions for a shot at Golovkin, who is viewed by many as the most feared fighter in boxing and has routinely been avoided by many of the best fighters in his division.Brook, who was ripped at his new weight after years of struggling to make the welterweight limit of 147 pounds, is bidding for what would be one of the biggest upsets in British boxing history. If he wins, he will become the third reigning welterweight world titleholder to move up and win a middleweight world title. The others are all-time greats enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame: Sugar Ray Robinson and Carmen Basilio, both of whom achieved it in the 1950s.I feel great. I feel fantastic, Brook told ESPN.com after the weigh-in. Its a natural weight to me. I feel strong. Im not surprised I was bigger than him. I just know that I am ready. Im ready to make history.Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who promotes Brook, said the difference in Brook making 160 and 147 was stark. The difference is, when Ive seen Kell Brook at a [welterweight] weigh-in, I go backstage and he cant even get off his chair, Hearn said of how drained Brook would be from making weight. Now I went in there, and you know hes made weight [comfortably]. You can see it in his face. Its not like he made weight but was bloated, like when [welterweight Amir] Khan got on the scales against Canelo [Alvarez in May], and he had, like, love handles.Abel Sanchez, Golovkins trainer, said he was impressed by how good Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) looked. He looked fantastic. His body looked good, said Sanchez, the 2015 Boxing Writers Association of America trainer of the year. He was very energetic. While Brook lingered after the weigh-in and did some interviews and posed for photos, Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), who has knocked out 22 opponents in a row since 2008 and owns the best knockout percentage in middleweight title history (.914), dressed and left quickly. Some have suggested that Golovkin has been more subdued than usual and looked a bit under the weather this week.Sanchez said that is simply not true.[Brook] has a lot of support, and thats one of the reasons Gennady is allowing him to take the stage, Sanchez said. Its his place.Another reason for Golovkins apparent bad mood at the weigh-in, according to Sanchez, was because he and his team arrived about a half-hour late after getting stuck in the brutal London traffic coming from their hotel. It took an hour and 40 minutes to get here, and I think we went like 10 miles, Sanchez said. It was crazy. We had four cars in a caravan, and the traffic was just miserable. Hes fine. He just wants to give Kell his moment. Were in London, England, where Kell has a lot of support. I think when he got out of the van he was a little pissed off it took so long. I can imagine that, because it did take a long time, but hes fine. Truthfully, hes fine. There are two other world title fights on the card, and all four boxers made weight.Bantamweight titleholder Lee Haskins weighed 117 pounds, and former titleholder Stuart Hall was 116? for their all-British rematch at 118 pounds. Haskins (33-3, 14 KOs), who is making his second title defense, won a decision against Hall (20-4-2, 7 KOs) in a 2012 fight for the vacant European title.Flyweight titleholder Johnriel Casimero (22-3, 14 KOs), of the Philippines, and Englands Charlie Edwards (8-0, 3 KOs) both weighed 111 pounds, one under the division limit. Casimero will be making his first defense since regaining the belt by fourth-round knockout in a rematch against Amnat Ruenroeng in May in China.Kris Bryant Cubs Jersey .
