Teenage Bills fans have no recollection of the last time Buffalo made the NFL playoffs. Many of their elders, however, might not remember the last time the Bills won a game in Oakland, back when they were battling for position in the 1966 AFL playoffs.Fifty years ago? Phew, Bills head coach Rex Ryan said this week. Thats amazing. Woof. You talk about a drought. If the Bills can end one drought Sunday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, it could go a long way toward helping them put the other one in the past. That wont be an easy task against a resurgent Raiders (9-2) team that is off to its best start since 2000 and tied with the New England Patriots for the best record in the AFC. Oakland is poised to end its own 13-season playoff drought, which is tied with Cleveland for the second-longest in the NFL behind Buffalo (16 seasons). The Bills (6-5) enter December with a winning record for the second time in three years, but just the third time since 1999, their last playoff season. They are currently ninth in the conference standings and one game back of the final wild-card spot.Buffalo has not won a road game in December while still in playoff contention since 2004. The Bills were 8-6 when they traveled to Oakland two years ago and were knocked out of playoff contention with a 26-24 loss to the 2-12 Raiders. While the Bills have struggled to take the next step since, the Raiders have risen to become one of the top teams in the league. Oakland has won five in a row and leads the competitive AFC West division by one game over Kansas City. The Raiders have already won two more games than they did last season. Were stacking up wins right now and we need to continue to do that, Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said.Third-year quarterback Derek Carr has led five fourth-quarter comebacks, most recently in last weeks 35-32 victory over the Carolina Panthers after dislocating the pinkie finger in his throwing hand.Carr wore a glove on his right hand during practice this week but said he will have no limitations for Sundays game.My hands doing great, Carr said with a smile. Thank you for asking.Carr has been touted as an MVP contender, but he may not be the only Raider in the discussion. Defensive counterpart Khalil Mack last week became the first player to record a sack, interception return for a touchdown, forced fumble and fumble recovery in the same game. Over his last eight games, Mack has nine sacks, 10 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.Talk all about him. Im good with that, Carr said. Im good with doing my job and going home to my kids and my wife. Talk to him. He doesnt have any kids or a wife yet. Give him all the praise.Ryan ranked Mack among the two best defensive players in the NFL, along with Denvers Von Miller, MVP of Super Bowl 50.Some guys are speed guys, but some dont play with power. Some guys are just power guys. But this guy can do it all, Ryan said. He can truck you, he can run around you, hes got moves, hes creative with his pass rush. ... Its pretty much a nightmare.Buffalo has won two in a row following a three-game losing streak. The Bills have been depleted by injuries and suspensions throughout the season, but are starting to get key players back healthy.Top wideout Sammy Watkins returned from injured reserve to catch three passes for 80 yards and draw a key pass interference penalty in last weeks 28-21 win over Jacksonville. Watkins had some issues with the foot this week, but the Bills are hopeful he will ve fine for Sundays game. The Bills need Watkins because wide receiver Robert Woods is out with knee injury. "Its nice," said Alonso, who hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off Wade Miley in the fifth inning to help the Padres to a 7-6 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night, San Diegos seventh win in nine games. It was Arizonas fourth straight loss. Alsonos homer was one of 14 hits for the Padres, the second time theyve had that many in three home games. Rookie Jedd Gyorko had his first three-hit game, including two doubles. "Ive sensed us starting to swing the bats better the last couple weeks," manager Bud Black said. "Weve broken out a couple different times on a couple different games and it showed tonight again with double-digit hits, some good at-bats, some good walks, some hard contact along the way, a big home run, a couple big swings. Ive sensed that." With the Padres trailing 3-2, Alonso drove a 2-2 pitch from Miley (2-1) into the Jack Daniels deck in right-centre, his fourth. It probably would have been a home run even in Petco Parks old configuration. The fences were moved in 11 feet from the home run porch in the right-field corner to the gap in an attempt to make the downtown ballpark play fairer. Jesus Guzman was aboard on a grounder. Miley was "locating pretty well early in the game," Alonso said. "I got a good fastball elevated middle in. He got me to foul some pitches inside. I wasnt catching up to it, but then I made a little adjustment." Miley said he left a pitch up. "I was trying to get it away and I overthrew it and it stayed middle and he did a good job of hitting it," Miley said. "I was battling a bit. You dont always feel your best every time. But I had some opportunities to get out of it." The homer made a winner of Jason Marquis (3-2). Marquis allowed three runs and four hits in six innings, struck out five and walked five. "Jason did his job," Black said.dddddddddddd "He hung in there, battled and made some pitches. Actually, his last inning was his best. Hes a veteran pitcher with moxie who knows how to work his way through a game." Huston Street came on with runners on first and second and no outs in the ninth and retired two batters before allowing Gerardo Parras three-run homer to straightaway centre, his second. Street then got Martin Prado to fly out to centre for his seventh save in as many chances. Miguel Montero homered to straightaway centre field off Marquis leading off the second, his second. San Diego took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on Gyorkos leadoff double and, with two outs, a single by Chris Denorfia and a triple by Everth Cabrera. The Diamondbacks regained the lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Eric Chavez and a run-scoring groundout by Cliff Pennington. The Padres added on in the seventh and eighth. Guzman doubled to right-centre and scored on Kyle Blanks single in the seventh. In the eighth, Cabreras sacrifice bunt brought in a run and Chase Headley hit an RBI double. Miley, who finished second to Bryce Harper in NL Rookie of the Year balloting last year, allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings, struck out four and walked three.
