Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN broadcaster Tim Tebow is actively pursuing a career in professional baseball and plans to hold a workout for Major League Baseball teams later this month, according to his agents Jimmy Sexton and Nick Khan. For almost the past year, Tebow has been training in Arizona and Los Angeles to hone his hitting and fielding skills in a sport he has not played on a full-time basis since 2005.Tebow was an all-state baseball player in Florida that year and hit .494 as a junior, helping Nease High School reach the final four of the Florida state playoffs.Obviously we support Tim in his pursuit of a baseball career, as we have in all his ventures, said Sexton, Tebows football agent, who is now working with CAA baseball agent Brodie Van Wagenen.Tims athletic ability, his work ethic, his leadership and his competitiveness were evident in football and will show in baseball. Knowing Tims passion and desire, we wont be surprised by anything he accomplishes.Tebow -- who will turn 29 on Sunday -- has notified his current employer, ESPN, of his desire to chase a baseball career, but he will continue to fulfill his broadcast obligations to the network.Tebow had a tryout with the Los Angeles Dodgers before this season, sources tell ESPNs Darren Rovell. A scout was present for the workout, and the team showed interest in Tebow afterward, the sources said.Orioles center fielder?Adam Jones?reacted to the news on Twitter:Former MLB catcher Chad Moeller said in a statement through Tebows agent,?I am beyond impressed with Tims athleticism and swing, and it goes without saying that he has shown a high level of discipline and strong work ethic. I see bat speed and power and real baseball talent. I truly believe Tim has the skill set and potential to achieve his goal of playing in the Major Leagues, and based on what I have seen over the past two months, it could happen relatively quickly. But a major league scouting director told ESPNs Jayson Stark on Tuesday: Eleven years [of not playing baseball], nobody can overcome that.Chicago Bears coach John Fox told ESPNs Jeff Dickerson on Tuesday, [When I coached him] he was very competitive and very dedicated to life. Hes a guy I was very, very impressed with. He also took us [the Broncos] to the playoffs and won a playoff game for us. [I enjoyed] being around him because he works extremely hard at whatever he does.Eric Decker, who played with Tebow in Denver, guaranteed that a minor league team will sign him.Ill just say if you havent played baseball for 10 years or however many years its been, I dont know what the chances are, but if I was a double-a or single-a team, Im signing him to get the ticket sales up, Decker said. Im sure hell have success in that field. But as far as the skill aspect, I think hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things so itll be interesting to see his progress. All 30 MLB teams will be invited to Tebows workout at the end of the month, an event he has been preparing for over the past year. Those who have seen Tebow hit have been surprised he picked up the sport so quickly after not playing it since high school. This may sound like a publicity stunt, but nothing could be further from the truth, Wagenen said in a statement through Tebows agent. I have seen Tims workouts, and people inside and outside the industry -- scouts, executives, players and fans -- will be impressed by his talent. In reaction to the news, the Schaumburg Boomers, an Illinois-based minor league team in the independent Frontier League, announced Tuesday that they have offered a Tebow a contract.?Football coaches had been aware of Tebows baseball prowess. One of Urban Meyers first encounters with Tebow was on the baseball field, and college coaches knew of the quarterbacks interest and talents in baseball. Now, with Tebows football career stalled, he has decided to pursue another one of the sports he excelled at in high school.Sean Johnson Jersey . -- There were a lot of firsts for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Matt Miazga USA Jersey .C. -- When North Carolina freshman Ryan Switzer reported to training camp in August he was a little miffed to learn he was third on the depth chart at punt returner.CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson cornerback Cordrea Tankersley wants to finish the season the right way.He is the lone returning starter from the third-ranked Tigers secondary last year, coming back for a final season and another shot at the national championship.Tankersley can help Clemson (9-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference; CFP No. 2 ) take a step toward that goal Saturday against Pitt (5-4, 2-3), a win giving the Tigers the ACC Atlantic and a spot in the leagues title game.It (feels) like we just started spring workouts last week, Tankersley said. Its really flying by now that its my senior season.Tankersley and Clemsons other seniors will take their solo run down Memorial Stadiums hill as part of senior day festivities. He understands theres much more to play for, starting with the game vs. the Panthers.Tankersley, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back considered a potential first-rounder in the NFL draft, feels he will leave the program better than when he arrived and deserving of their No. 2 spot in College Football Playoff ranking. This program is set basically forever, Tankersley said. We can play the best, Alabama, Michigan, you name it.Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said his team began the championship phase of its season last week with a 54-0 victory over Syracuse. He said the Tigers have stayed focused in preparation and risen to whatever challenge they face. These guys have really bought into what we do and how we do it, he said. Its just been a fun team.Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi is hoping to stop the fun times this week. He said his team is building itself in Clemsons model, starting with players who understand what it takes to succeed on the field.Guys that go out and play with heart and get after it and give you everything theyve got, have a chance, Narduzzi said.---Some other things to watch when third-ranked Clemson plays Pitt:SAYING GOODBYE: Seniors wont be the only ones taking a final home bow for Clemson on Saturday. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said four juniors -- quarterback Deshaun Watson, tailback Wayne GGallman and receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott -- will be honored, too, since their plans are to forego their final seasons and turn pro.ddddddddddddTURNOVER TROUBLE: The Panthers were able to overcome their various defensive issues early in the season by showing a nose for the ball, creating nine turnovers over their first five games. Those kinds of plays have disappeared in recent weeks. Pitt has taken it away just once since the first weekend of October.STELLAR PLAYERS: The matchup between Pitt and Clemson -- the only time they played previously was the 1977 Gator Bowl -- also features the past two ACC players of the year in Panthers running back James Conner and Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson. Conner has 712 yards and 11 TDs this fall. Watson has thrown 24 touchdown passes, two behind ACC leader Lamar Jackson of Louisville.HISTORY LESSON: Pitts last landscape shaking moment came in 2007, when the Panthers went to rival West Virginia and pulled off a 13-9 upset to spoil the Mountaineers chance of making the BCS title game. Dont expect Narduzzi to dig into the archives, however, in search of motivation. Today is what we sell, not what happened back in 1978 or `76 or `09, he said. Its what happens, you know, this Saturday. Weve just got to play the best football we can on Saturday. Nothing else matters.OH CANADA: The Panthers are averaging a robust 37 points a game (third in the ACC) despite being limited in the passing game, a testament to first-year offensive coordinator Matt Canadas creativity. Pitt uses a variety of misdirection and jet sweeps to get wide receivers involved in the running game. Offensive tackle Brian ONeill also has a pair of touchdowns this season out of unique formations that have helped the 6-foot-6, 300-pound converted tight end get open.---AP Sports Writer Will Graves contributed to this report.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '
