Following two major trades in the CFL last week, TSNs Jan Staniszewski breaks down how each player will fit in with their new team and what each general manager had to say about their move. January 15th, 2015 Ottawa – acquires international receiver Maurice Price Calgary – acquires international linebacker Jasper Simmons and international receiver Dan Buckner What the GM had to say Marcel Desjardins, Ottawa Redblacks: “Maurice Price gives us a legitimate downfield threat, he will probably play wide receiver but with a new offensive coordinator in Jason Maas there is a slight chance that he could be moved to the slot.” John Hufnagel, Calgary Stampeders: “It wasn’t an easy decision but the emergence and presence of other playmaking receivers on our roster allowed us to make this trade and acquire two potentially valuable assets. “ The Skinny For Ottawa - Maurice Price will be the playmaker and downfield threat that Henry Burris needed last season. Price caught 12 touchdowns in just three seasons with the Stampeders and has two years left on his contract. He will likely replace Wallace Miles, who is set to become a free agent on February 10th. Miles turned down two different contracts late last season. Simmons will likely be replaced at outside linebacker by either Damaso Munoz or David Hinds, with Justin Cudworth and Charles Clay potentially also in the mix. For Calgary - Simmons was the Redblacks nominee for the Most Outstanding Player and Defensive Player of the year award in 2014. He will battle for playing time with outside linebacker Deron Mayo and middle linebacker Juwan Simpson in Calgary. Simmons will be in tough to win a full-time position but he will give John Hufnagel great depth and a very good special teams player. Dan Buckner might get lost in the Stampeders very deep receiving corps. January 16th, 2015 Montreal – acquires international slotback Fred Stamps Edmonton – acquires international wide receiver Kenny Stafford What the GM had to say Jim Popp, Montreal Alouettes: “We did our due diligence with Fred. I spoke with current Als special teams coach Kavis Reed who coached him just two seasons ago and our current quarterback Jonathan Crompton. They both had great things to say about him and his character… We think Fred has two or three good years left.” The Skinny For Montreal – The Alouettes get a former four-year CFL All-Star to replace Duron Carter, who is certainly set to sign in the NFL, and/or a replacement in the slot for SJ Green, who many think will test free agency on February 10th. Jim Popp had this to say about long-time Alouette SJ Green; “If SJ wants be here, he will. We offered him a contract that would make him the highest paid player in the CFL that wasn’t a quarterback.” For Edmonton - The Eskimos clear some salary cap space with the move of Stamps, who was making in the neighborhood of $150,000. Stafford is making less than half of that and is only 25-years-old. He will battle for a spot on the team in training camp. Edmonton generally uses two national receivers in their starting line-up, meaning he will be battling with Kendial Lawrence and AJ Guyton for playing time. Kelli Stack and Alex Carpenter also scored for the Americans, who avoided a repeat of Finlands upset at the Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., in November. Finnish goalie Noora Raty made 58 saves in that one, but the three-time Olympian could stop just 40 of 43 U. Custom Arsenal Jerseys . According to a report from ESPN, the veteran safety has signed another one-year deal with the team Raiders, the team that drafted him, and who he returned to last year after a long stint with the Green Bay Packers. Rob Holding Jersey . The 12th-ranked Haas served well throughout the match at the Ibirapuera arena, allowing only one break point to the 152nd-ranked Italian. Both players held serve until the first-set tiebreak, when Haas stepped up his game to easily clinch the set. RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- After a few days of reflection, Luis Suarez acknowledged what millions saw on TV -- he did bite an opponent during a game at the World Cup. In addition, he said hes sorry about it, and promised it will never happen again. Ending a unified protest in Uruguay by everyone from Suarez to teammates, fans and even the countrys president that the star striker had done nothing wrong, the Liverpool player on Monday offered an apology to Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini. "I deeply regret what occurred," Suarez said in a statement posted on Twitter. "I apologize to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family. ... I vow to the public that there will never again be another incident like (this)." The Uruguay striker was banned for four months from all football by FIFA for biting the shoulder of Chiellini during the teams 1-0 win over Italy in their group-stage game in Brazil. The incident was not spotted by the referee, and the Uruguayans victory sent them through to the second round while Italy was eliminated. It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting an opponent, after similar incidents at both Ajax in the Dutch league and Liverpool in the English Premier League. Chiellini responded on Twitter shortly after Suarez posted his statement, accepting the apology. "Its all forgotten," the Italian wrote in English. "I hope FIFA will reduce your suspension." Suarez had originally denied wrongdoing in a written response to FIFA, and had been staunchly defended by teammates andd Uruguayan officials.dddddddddddd His apology could be taken into account by FIFA when it considers an appeal of the ban, which the Uruguayan federation has said it will file. "After several days of being home with my family, I have had the opportunity to regain my calm and reflect about the reality of what occurred during the Italy-Uruguay match," the statement said. "(The) truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me." Suarez was also suspended from Uruguays next nine international matches -- the first of which was a 2-0 loss to Colombia in the round of 16 on Saturday. Suarez had already returned home to Uruguay by then, and has received an outpouring of support from Uruguayan fans and even the countrys president, who blasted FIFA over the ban. President Jose Mujica referred to FIFA as "bunch of old sons of whores" as he welcomed Uruguays team back from the World Cup on Sunday. He also referred to FIFAs stiff ban as "fascist," though he said that Suarez could have been sanctioned with a lesser sentence. Suarez was named the player of the year in the Premier League this past season after scoring 31 goals to lead Liverpool to a second-place finish. He led the league in scoring despite missing the first five games of the season for serving the last part of a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during the previous campaign. Liverpool has yet to comment on the World Cup biting incident. ' ' '
