Manuel Pellegrini hopes a Capital One Cup final victory can propel Manchester City towards Premier League and Champions League glory.City and Liverpool go head to head at Wembley on Sunday for the right to lift this seasons first major piece of silverware.Pellegrinis first honour with City was the League Cup in 2014, where his side beat Sunderland 3-1 before going on wrestle back the Premier League title from city rivals Manchester United. The last two winners of this competition have gone on to be crowned league champions and Pellegrini, whose side currently sit six points off leaders Leicester, hopes a Wembley victory will lead to more trophies at home and on the continent.I just hope to win the Capital One Cup on Sunday, the City boss said. After that we have to return to the Premier League where we have to play for a possible 36 points. Having secured the League Cup in his first season, Pellegrini went on the win the Premier League title We are six points off the lead, thats an important advantage but its not decisive. Everyone that knows the Premier League knows that anyone can beat anyone.I am sure all the teams in front of us will lose some points between now and the end of the season so we are not going to give up until the end.We are aiming to reach the final in the Champions League too - we made a big step towards the quarter-finals this week [with victory at Dynamo Kiev].So we are going to continue being our best to be successful between now and the end of the season.Pellegrinis tenure as City manager is slowly winding to an end, with Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiolas imminent summer arrival drawing ever closer. City stand of the brink of a maiden Champions League quarter-final appearance Sundays final presents the Chilean with perhaps a final chance to win a trophy at the end of a largely successful spell at the Etihad Stadium.Brought in to replace Roberto Mancini, Pellegrinis appointment at City in 2013 instilled an air of calmness to a club where chaos was once rife, but now he hopes to end the season with one final flourish. Jamie Redknapp joins Ed Chamberlin to preview the Capital One Cup final between Liverpool and Manchester City. One of my targets when I arrived here was to improve this club, he added. People tend not to give praise to this club because everyone always talks about the money. You dont need money to be a big club, you need tradition and experience in different competitions. Before I arrived, this club had never qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League. We were unlucky last year when we drew Barcelona in the last 16 but this year I hope to reach the quarter-finals. Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he and his team are ready for an important week in their season I have the chance to win three titles [before leaving]. The most important thing is not just to win the titles, its the style in which we win those titles. We scored the most goals in the three seasons I have been here and I am sure fans know those things. They enjoy every time we play in the correct way, so it is important to win but in the correct style.Watch Liverpool v Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final live on Sunday, 4.30pm, Sky Sports 1 HD.Also See:Sterling has nothing to provePellegrini: Cup can be catalystRedknapps cup final previewCapital One Cup final previewAnthony Munoz Youth Jersey . We won both games convincingly, giving the group a lot of confidence going into the ODIs. The thunderstorms in South Africa have troubled one or two of the squad But one thing we have discovered pretty quickly about South Africa is how rapidly the weather can change. There have been some serious thunderstorms in the last week, much to the dismay of Jenny Gunn, who is absolutely petrified of them, bless her.Unlike her, I have been glued to my window watching them, even managing to snap a photo or two.Squad on safari Heres the whole gang on safari. What a rabble we look! During our time off we have been lucky enough to get a true taste of South Africa by going on safari, which was an amazing experience. We visited Pilansberg National Park and spent a good four hours out in the truck spotting some animals.Although we only managed to see the tail of a lion (it was too hot for them to come out), we did see plenty of rhinos, giraffes, elephants, zebras and hippos. The rhinos were the stars of the show on safari Our strength and conditioning coach, Ian Durrant, was left a bit red faced after shouting about spotting a Melvin (a giraffe for anyone not a fan of the film Madagascar), only to then follow-up, saying, oh no wait, its just a big stick.dddddddddddd.Everyone really enjoyed the chance to get out and see what this incredible country has to offer before we start the series. Lucky ladies!Nicknames and new songs We got the ODI series off to a cracking start on Sunday with a win. The Hoof, aka Anya Shrubsole, was straight back into match-mode with a brilliant four-for, and it was finished off nicely with our batters showing some real intent and getting the job done quickly, despite the rain-affected innings. Anya Shrubsole helped get the side off to a winning start in the first ODI It was great to see Lauren Winfield and Amy Jones going out and attacking the opening bowlers, playing aggressive cricket. Its hopefully a good indication of the way we want to play our cricket and a sign of things to come. The win meant that we were able to trial our new team song which went down really a treat. Big up to Lyd (Lydia Greenway), Trev (Heather Knight), Sciver (Natalie Sciver) and Jonesy (Amy Jones) for a successful first run out. And speaking of successful debuts, Id like to congratulate Robbo (Mark Robinson) and Sals (Ian Salisbury) on their winning coaching debut. Not a bad start to their campaign! Catch you soon, Crossy.
