CHICAGO -- The U.S. soccer team will be missing a key figure for the Gold Cup final against Panama on Sunday: their coach. Jurgen Klinsmann was suspended for one game Friday by CONCACAFs disciplinary committee, the result of his ejection in the 87th minute of a 3-1 victory over Honduras in the semifinals Wednesday. Klinsmann was dismissed "for showing dissent towards the referee by throwing the ball in a violent manner," the disciplinary committee found, and said FIFA rules require anyone ejected from a match to be suspended for the following game. The decision cannot be appealed. "I dont think it changes too much," U.S. captain DaMarcus Beasley said Friday. "Its always good to have him on the bench, but hell give his wisdom before the game ... make sure we get off on the right foot. But its not going to be the same not seeing his face on the sideline, giving us instructions when we need it and being the enthusiastic person that he is on the bench. Especially, when we score or he needs to tell us something if we need to change something." Klinsmann was irate Wednesday after the referee failed to issue cards on a series of hard fouls against the Americans. He could be seen yelling and gesturing angrily in the direction of the referee, and was told to leave the field after he slammed a ball into the ground. Klinsmann later apologized, saying he acted out of frustration. "I was talking to the ref as well. There werent any cards," Beasley said. "I got hit three, four times in somewhat the same sequence, and they didnt call anything but a foul. So I could understand his frustration. I was frustrated." The Americans are seeking their fifth Gold Cup title. They also are looking to extend their record 10-game winning streak in all matches. "This is what he lives and dies for," Eddie Johnson said. "This is the opportunity that American soccer has been wanting, to have a coach with such experience, whos played at the highest level and played on big teams and managed big players, to be in this position to help us get to where were trying to go in American soccer."Wholesale MLB Jerseys . In taking its goal tally to 99 in all competitions already this season, City delivered another demonstration of its lethal firepower at Etihad Stadium to set up a fourth-round match at home to another second-tier team -- Watford.VATICAN CITY -- The volatile nature of Odell Beckham Jr . was on John Maras mind at a Vatican conference on faith and sport. The New York Giants president, CEO and co-owner, appearing at the conference on Thursday, discussed the receivers latest outbursts on the sidelines.Hes a young man who is very emotional but hes basically a very good young man who does a lot of good things off the field. But he plays the game with a lot of passion and sometimes he goes a little too far, Mara told The Associated Press. But thats true with a lot of players, Mara added. Unfortunately for him it seems like everybodys focused on him right now.Beckhams antics were on full display in New Yorks 24-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. While Beckham is one of the NFLs most talented receivers, hes been making more headlines lately for tantrums, outbursts and penalty flags. After practice on Thursday, Beckham said he wants to act better on the field and be an inspiration for children, rather than setting a bad example.I think I just have to control what I can control, the 23-year-old receiver said. I can control myself. I cant control anything else but what I do. I definitely know I can do a better job at that.Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan seemed upset that some cornerbacks are be baiting Beckham, trying to either get him to commit an unsportsmanlike penalty or to take him out of his game.If thats the approach, obviously the guys not courageous enough or brave enough or man enough to go ahead and play it straight up, said Sullivan a West Point graduate. If they need those types of tricks, then OK, so be it. Were going to rise above that.Beckham didnt seem to mind the baiting, saying he probably would use that ploy, too.Looking back on the Vikings game, Beckham said he needs to be aware that opponents will employ ways to steer him off course.Sometimes you need to refocus, Beckham said. Sometimes you need things to happen that will bring you back. Its always the tough times that make the great ones that much better.Mara is headlining a panel Friday on big sports, big business. Hes already been involved in discussions on sports values and maintaining respect oon the playing field -- issues he plans to bring back to New York and to the Giants.ddddddddddddYoure always going to have incidents on the field because its an emotional game and people play with a lot of passion, and I think we have an obligation to try to minimize that as much as possible and try to talk to people to get them to understand that theres a certain way which you should act on the field, said the 61-year-old Mara, whose grandfather, Tim, founded the Giants in 1925.We were talking about respect and treating your opponents with respect, and you dont always see that in professional sports, Mara added. So that is one of the messages of this conference. On the subject of faith, Mara mentioned how Giants players kneel together in prayer inside the locker room after each game.Nobody is forced to do it and its been done for years and years and Im not even sure how it got started, but its just something that they do naturally, he said.Of course a lot of times before that or just after that theres all sorts of language used depending on the outcome of the game, which maybe doesnt quite fit. But there is always that moment where they do kneel and say a prayer and I think thats a good thing.Mara also said he is working on bringing another Super Bowl to MetLife Stadium after a successful 2014 edition, which marked the first time the game was played in the New York City area and the first time a cold-weather city was host for an outdoor Super Bowl.Weve looked at the possibility of `22, `23, in that area. Well be sitting down with the Jets in the near future to talk about re-energizing to plan that, Mara said. We think it was very successful two years ago and theres no reason why it couldnt be that successful again. I dont know that we would get the same weather -- we got pretty lucky with that -- but we were prepared for everything and it ended up being great weather.---AP Sports Writer Tom Canavan contributed.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Andrew Dampf on Twitter: www.twitter.com/asdampf ' ' '
