PHOENIX - One of these days, a San Diego player is going to hit for the cycle. And Everth Cabrera would be a good bet as the man to do it. He came close yet again on Saturday night. Cabrera matched his career high with four RBIs, two coming on his second home run in two nights, and the Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-4. Cabrera fell a triple shy of the cycle, with a single in the first and a two-run double to cap the Padres five-run fourth. It was the third time this season hes been a hit short of the cycle. No Padres player has hit for the cycle in franchise history. "I was thinking about it a little bit," he said, "about that triple." Manager Bud Black said theres a cool confidence in Cabrera this season. "I think the thing that were impressed with, his coaches and his teammates, is the calm focus," Black said. "Hes locked in both offensively and defensively and you can see it in his play. Hes playing loose yet inspired. Hes playing with a high degree of energy but yet theres a rhythm to his game." Andrew Cashner (4-2) got the victory, giving up four runs on nine hits in six-plus innings. He also singled in a run, his first RBI of the season. Wade Miley (3-4), who took a shot off his backside off the bat of Jedd Gyorko just before the Padres fourth-inning surge, got the loss. Arizonas Eric Chavez drove in three runs with a two-run homer and sacrifice fly. The Padres have scored 23 runs in Cashners last two starts. San Diego beat Washington 13-4 in the hard-throwing right-handers previous effort. Miley allowed seven runs on seven hits in 3 2-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. It was the second rough start in the last three for the young left-hander, who gave up seven runs, six earned, in a 10-1 loss to Atlanta on May 13. Miley wouldnt blame getting hit by the liner for his fourth-inning problems. "It hurt a little bit but it goes away," he said. "I just didnt make pitches again. It wasnt like I was throwing good and the comebacker happened (then) I threw bad. I was just very inconsistent through and through." After Arizona scored twice in the third to go up 4-2, Miley gave up a leadoff single to Carlos Quentin. Gyrkos one bouncer caught Miley as he turned around. The pitcher was able to regroup and throw Gyorko out. After a visit from the trainer, Miley threw a couple of practice pitches off the mound and said he was all right to stay in the game. Kyle Blanks flew out to centre field for the second out. But Miley gave up four straight hits — including Cashners RBI single. Chris Denorfias run-scoring double put San Diego up 5-4 and ended Mileys night. Left-hander Tony Sipp came on and Cabrera doubled in two more. San Diego got two more off Josh Collmenter in the fifth, one of them unearned when Gerardo Parra bobbled the ball in centre, allowing a second run to score on Nick Hundleys RBI single. "The biggest thing is I just stuck with my game plan," Cashner said. "I thought I made some pitches in that third inning but caught some tough luck. But our guys really swung the bat well tonight. I think thats probably the best two-out hitting that weve had in a while." Arizona scored two in the first when Parra led off with the first of his three singles, then with two outs and a 3-2 count, Chavez sent one into the right field seats for his sixth home run of the year. San Diego tied it in the third. Hundley drew a leadoff walk, then with two outs and on a 3-2 pitch, Cabrera homered to left, his second in three at-bats. Cabrera, who has four of his nine career home runs this season, got one Friday night in the eighth inning off David Hernandez in San Diegos 5-2 series-opening loss. The Diamondbacks took a 4-2 lead with two in the third. Four singles, one of them on Paul Goldschmidts slow-rolling RBI single through the right side of the infield. With the bases loaded in the ninth, Diamondbacks shortstop Josh Wilson made a diving stop of Hundleys grounder, then with his glove hand dribbled the ball on the ground to second baseman Martin Prado for the out. NOTES: Arizona LH Patrick Corbin (7-0, 1.44 ERA) looks to go to 8-0 in Sundays series finale. RH Jason Marquis (6-2, 3.27) starts for the Padres. ... Cabrera got his major league-leading 19th stolen base, the 100th of his career. ... Arizona INF Willie Bloomquist, in his first rehab game, went 2 for 4 for four RBIs for Triple-A Reno on Friday. Chester lost his job as head coach of Hull KR after they suffered a surprise 14-12 home defeat to the Wildcats in February, and that sparked a coaching merry-go-round.James Webster, who parted company with Wakefield in May last year, took up the role of Hull KRs interim head coach in March, four days before the sudden resignation of his successor at Belle Vue, Brian Smith, which paved the way for Chesters appointment. Chesters departure from the Robins came just three games into the season but he reveals he saw the move coming and holds no grudges as he prepares to face them for the first time since his removal.Id got a sense towards the back end of last season, when things werent going particularly well, said Chester, who had guided the Robins to the Challenge Cup final in August. Wakefield forward Mickael Simon thinks the growing number of French players in Super League is benefiting the national side I hold no grudges. It was just one of those unfortunate things that happen in sport where they thought things had gone stale and wanted a change.Weve moved on and I was fortunate enough to get a job here at Wakefield that Im enjoying. Wakefield suffered a 38-8 defeat at Salford last Friday Chester is hoping to put his vast knowledge of the Hull KR players tto good use and admits his players will need to keep a close eye on skipper and chief playmaker Terry Campese, who was rested for last weeks trip to France to play Catalans Dragons, and his half-back partner Albert Kelly.ddddddddddddI know the way theyd like to play, although Webby has got them playing in a different style and theyre a difficult team to defend against when theyve got Alby on one side and Campo on the other, Chester said. Campo is massive for them. Theyve wrapped him in cotton wool and rightly so. Hes a key player. When Campo plays, the team generally plays well. For us, its just about cutting his time down with the ball and trying to get over their forward pack.Wakefield are coming off a heavy defeat at Salford - only their second loss in 11 league and cup matches under Chester - but are expected to gain the first of two more victories their coach believes will clinch a place in the top eight for last years wooden spooners.I think 20 points should be enough, he said.
