RIO DE JANEIRO -- Michael Phelps wasnt about to be stopped. Not even by his biggest rival.Phelps blew away Ryan Lochte -- and everyone else, for that matter -- to win his fourth gold medal of the Rio Olympics and 22nd career Olympic gold medal with a victory in the 200-meter individual medley Thursday night.Phelps also set an Olympic record with his 15th individual medal, passing Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, and became the first swimmer ever to win the same event at four straight Olympics.Winning four in a row, when the announcer said that, I had a really hard time holding it together, Phelps told NBC.?Im just living a dream come true.Phelps was back in the water 38 minutes later to swim in the 100-meter butterfly semifinals. He finished second in the first semifinal and fifth overall to advance to the final, which will be his last individual event. He said he knew the quick turnaround was going to be painful, but added that hes gotta step on the gas.If Phelps wins gold in the 100 fly, it will be his fourth straight win in the event. Then, hell close out these Olympics in the 4x100 medley relay.Things started to hit me this morning, Phelps said. I only get to put a racing suit on two more times after tonight. The 200 IM was touted as the last showdown between two of Americas greatest swimmers, although there has never been any question about which one has the upper hand.Phelps left Lochte trailing in his wake. He finished a full body length ahead of the field with total dominance on the breaststroke and freestyle legs, touching in 1 minute, 54.66 seconds.Ive been able to kind of finish how I wanted to, Phelps said. This is exactly how I want to exit the sport.Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, didnt even make it to the podium this time after taking two silvers and a bronze behind Phelps at the previous three Olympics. Lochte led at the midway point but faded to fifth with a time of 1:57.47.We bring out the best in each other, Lochte said. I was a little bummed about my performance, but I was happy for him to get a gold and get one for Team USA.Japans Kosuke Hagino took the silver in 1:56.61, while Chinas Wang Shun claimed the bronze in 1:57.05.While Phelps raced to roars in Rio, in his hometown of Baltimore, his showdown with Lochte was shown on the giant video board during a break in the fourth quarter of the Ravens preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. The crowd cheered as Phelps reached the finish line. Its not too many athletes who are going to have the world stop just to watch him, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton said. We had a real-life football game going on, and everybody just stopped to look at him. My hat goes off to Michael Phelps. Hes just an amazing athlete, an amazing citizen, who has set the bar for athletes all around.Phelps said he was texting with a friend who updated him on the Baltimore score before he went out for his race. The Ravens went on to win 22-19.I look forward to getting home to a Ravens game really soon, Phelps said. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Mel Ott Jersey Large . SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- As Ryan Harlost stepped to the mound on Sunday, he took it all in.Chants of U-S-A, U-S-A! droned over his left shoulder as he dipped it to deliver a warm-up pitch. South Korean arms and flags waved furiously to his right. Little kids who asked for his autograph earlier in the week used makeshift sleds to slide down the hill toward most of the 22,000-plus fans who packed Lamade Stadium. The Endwell, New York, pitcher admitted it made him uneasy. He sure didnt show it.Harlost led New York to the Little League World Series title, striking out eight and limiting South Korea to five hits in six innings in a 2-1 victory. He scored the deciding run on a passed ball in the fourth inning.I was a little nervous at first in front of a lot of people but its just another game and I felt confident going in, Harlost said. But it was more than just another game.Endwell snapped a five-year championship drought for U.S. teams on Little Leagues biggest stage and gave New York its first title since 1964. Huntington Beach, California, won in 2011 and Mid Island from Staten Island won New Yorks last World Series championship.Conner Rush had the New York teams only RBI to give Endwell a lead it wouldnt relinquish in the bottom of the fourth. Harlost (2-0) scored the deciding run on a passed ball a batter later.I was just thinking get it in play any way you can, Rush said. Once that happens, you never know what can happen. For a while, it didnt look like New York hitters would be able to hit anything.Junho Jeong (1-2) gave up two runs on four hits and struck out nine for South Korea (4-2). He was unflappable for most of the afternoon, working the outside of the plate masterfully for 3 1/3 innings of no-hit ball before Jude Abbadessa broke through in the fourth.Waking to the plate as Endwell fans along the first base side bellowed Juuude! Abbadessa broke up the rightys no-hit bid withh a single to center.dddddddddddd Harlost followed with a liner to the same spot and Rush plated the go-ahead run with a hit that fell in behind the shortstop. Harlost raced home to give New York a 2-0 lead one batter later. Its just been amazing, Abbadessa said. Just coming here would be amazing and then our team doing well is even more amazing. Its been fun the whole week and were glad that it turned out this way.Yoomin Lee homered for the Asia-Pacific champs from Seoul to halve New Yorks lead in the fifth. Harlosts precision and a stingy New York defense prevented further damage. In the second, right fielder James Fellows made a running grab at the warning track to rob Sangheon Park of an extra base hit. With a runner on first an inning later, Harlost snagged a hard-hit liner at the mound, tossed to first to get the putout and escape the third unscathed.Later in the fifth after Yoomins blast halved the score, Abbadessa scooped up a grounder that took an awkward bounce and threw to first for final out of the inning. The Mid-Atlantic team is a really good defensive team, South Korean manager Heesu Ji said. Im really proud of my team.Minho Choi struck out with runners on first and second to end the game.Harlost turned toward his dugout on the first-base side but didnt make it there as his teammates rushed out to dogpile on him near the base line. Most of New Yorks players had been on other teams together before. More than half of them were on the team that fell to last years World Series runner-up Red Land in the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship, leaving them one win shy of qualifying for a trip to South Williamsport. It was all of our last years of Little League, Rush said. So its just awesome to know that we all came together to be the best team in the world. ' ' '
