NAPLES, Fla. -- Lydia Ko shot a tournament-record 10-under 62 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead in the CME Group Tour Championship, putting the top-ranked New Zealander in position to win the player of the year award with a victory Sunday.Ko birdied four of the first six holes and had seven birdies and a bogey on the back nine to get to 12-under 132 in the season finale. Ryann OToole (67) and So Yeon Ryu (68) were tied for second, and Sei Young Kim (68) and Beatriz Recari (68) followed at 8 under.Going into today definitely my goal wasnt the 62, said Ko, the 2014 winner at Tiburon Golf Club. The first three holes made great birdies. I was going in with really good momentum, and I was able to carry that for pretty much the rest of my round. I think I was putting good, so if I was within a distance that I felt comfortable I felt like, `Hey, I could hole this.Ko needs a victory to top Ariya Jutanugarn in the player of the year race, and also would take the season points title and $1 million bonus with a win. The points in the CME Globe standings were reset for the finale, so Ko, Jutanugarn and Brooke Henderson all control their destinies.I think the big key mindset for me is that Ive been not really thinking about everything that could happen, Ko said. For me to win player the year I know I need to win this championship. A lot of things come with that. So to me, its more important to finish off my season strong. I think that way I dont feel more pressure about everything thats going on.Ko is fighting Jutanugarn for the money title and In Gee Chun for the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average. Jutanugarn, the tour victory leader with five, was tied for 19th at 4 under after a 68.I started to make some putts, Jutanugarn said. Today was pretty good day for me.Chun (69) was tied for sixth at 7 under, and Henderson (72) was tied for 38th at even par.The 62 matched Kos lowest score of the season, shot in the second round of her Walmart NW Arkansas victory in June. She has four victories this year.Going into today, I just wanted to focus on my game, Ko said. I knew I had a great pairing Eun Hee (Ji) and Mi Hyang (Lee). Mi Hyang said, `Hey, whenever you play with us you seem to play well. Maybe its the good vibes I got from them. Obviously, its a great round. Its a better position, even better than I could have imagined. Even on the weekend I just got to focus and keep playing great.Ko is using Gary Matthews as her caddie for the second straight event. She fired Jason Hamilton -- now with Ha Na Jang -- and used Sargunan Suntharaj in Malaysia, then teamed with Matthews in Japan. She worked with instructor David Leadbetter on the range late Thursday. It was just more about my iron play, Ko said. I hit my drives really well yesterday. My irons were kind of on and off. Not that many where I was looking for birdies. So, it was just very simple. Just in the takeaway where I wasnt going too out. Its something that you normally do, but especially when youre hitting it good, its more about the basics and the little things.OToole had six birdies and a bogey.I think usually my drives are my strong point, OToole said. Right now Im hitting these little cuts that arent going as far as they could. Definitely could give me shorter irons in. But Im striking my irons well, putting myself in position.Ryu earned a spot in the final group Saturday with friend Ko.Its think its definitely going to be really fun to competing with world No. 1 player, Ryu said. She is not only great player, shes really great person. ... She loves food like me, so we just talk a lot of thing about food when we are on the golf course.First-round leader Shanshan Feng followed her opening 66 with a 73 to drop into a tie for 16th at 5 under. BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- The Jerry Sandusky appeals hearing might not be over just yet. While Tuesday morning marked the end of what was originally slated as a three-day hearing, Sanduskys attorneys said theyd still like to question some witnesses -- saying its not off the table to call to the stand the likes of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Sara Ganim, whom the defense claimed also used leaked grand-jury information.I think there will be an order coming out, Sandusky attorney Al Lindsay said outside the Centre County Courthouse. And I dont want to speak to orders that arent out, but we have certain legal arguments to make that would deal with matters we think should come up in the court. The matters going to go on.Sandusky was convicted in the same courthouse in 2012 on 45 of 48 counts of child sex abuse. He is currently serving a 30- to 60-year sentence in Greene State Prison, where he has been largely segregated from the prisons general population out of concerns for his safety. He again remained silent Tuesday, smiling at points and mouthing words to his family and supporters in the front row. Sandusky testified only on the first day and proclaimed his innocence. On Tuesday, Sanduskys defense team again tried to focus on alleged grand jury leaks and the conflicting statements of the man who self-identified as Victim 2. Lindsay argued there were inconsistencies in all of the victims testimony, although he focused only on Victim 2 since that was included in his petition.Former state prosecutor Frank Fina, who was called to the stand Tuesday, disagreed.I dont think you can draw any comparisons between the consistencies in [Victim 2s] statements and those perhaps in [Victim 1s] statements, Fina testified. I dont see any parallel.Fina also disagreed with the notion that tthere was definitely a grand-jury leak to begin with.dddddddddddd While a leak from the prosecution would violate the law, information couldve also been gleaned by speaking to the grand-jury witnesses -- many of whom were allowed to share their testimony.Lindsay did not believe that was likely. Our argument is that if we can establish that there were leaks made by government agents, it could result in the dismissal of the case as opposed to a new trial, he said after the hearing.Tuesdays hearing lasted just about two hours and ended before noon. The tensest part of the day came when Lindsay questioned an agitated Joe McGettigan, the lead prosecutor in the 2012 Sandusky trial. Lindsay asked whether McGettigan wouldnt mind answering the questions. And if I do? McGettigan retorted.Judge John Cleland was forced to interject, saying, Wait, wait. Just take it easy here. You ask the questions; you answer the questions.McGettigan said after the hearing Tuesday that he believed Sanduskys attempt at a new trial or having his charges thrown out has no merit and will be unsuccessful. He was also asked for his response to the defense questioning the veracity of the eight witnesses who testified that Sandusky molested them.Well, I live in the real world, he said. A jury of 12 persons convicted him in a full and fair hearing. And I stand by the trial we tried.Sandusky previously lost direct appeals to the states Supreme and Superior courts. The Tuesday hearing falls under the states Post-Conviction Relief Act and is confined to newly discovered evidence, constitutional violations and ineffective lawyering. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
