LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville overpowered Lafayette early, allowing the fifth-ranked Cardinals to do some fine-tuning.Sam Fuehring scored 13 points to help No. 5 Louisville cruise to a 92-48 victory over Lafayette on Sunday in the second day of the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge. The Cardinals (5-0) scored the first 14 points and led 20 in the first quarter. The Leopards (1-4) missed eight of their first nine shots and committed nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes. All 13 healthy Cardinals got on the court and either had a point or an assist. It doesnt matter who we give the ball to, junior Mariya Moore said. Anyone on our team can score.Fuehring was perfect from the floor on six shots to finish a point off her career high of 14. She is seeing more time this season as Cortnee Walton, a starter and the teams second-leading rebounder last season, has been sidelined because of a right arm injury. Fuehring said coach Jeff Walz has asked her to step into the seniors role as a rebounder and defender for the time being.Of course getting minutes is what I want, but Im trying to really work on my defense and just know its not all about scoring, the 6-foot-3 forward said. Its part of Walz effort to make his players more coachable and not just seek out scoring opportunities. The ones who do what he asks them to do, he said, will be in line for more playing time. Then, if youre in the game, you got a chance to score, Walz said. Thats something new that a few of them dont understand. On the bench, its hard to score.Asia Durr added 13 for Louisville, which also got 12 from Moore and 11 from Briahanna Jackson. Forward Myisha Hines-Allen added 14 rebounds and a team-high five assists.Lafayette shot just 21.2 percent in the first half, and the Leopards were outrebounded by Louisville 62-28.Olivia Gumbs and Ashley Lutz both led Lafayette with nine points. The Leopards starters combined to score just 11 points total.BIG PICTURELouisville: This was the kind of game where Louisville coach Jeff Walz envisioned getting significant playing time for his freshmen and reserves, and as the Cardinals extended the lead to 46 by the third period, he could do just that. Only one starter, Durr, played more than 20 minutesLafayette: Sunday marked the fourth straight double-digit loss for the Leopards. In each of those games they trailed by at least 20 points at some point in the contest.STAT OF THE NIGHTWhen Louisville held Lafayette to just seven points in the first quarter, it marked the fourth time already this season that the Cardinals have held an opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter. For the third time, it took place in the opening period.LETDOWNWhile Louisville dominated, Walz still saw room for improvement. For example, while the Cardinals grabbed 28 offensive rebounds, they only turned those into 26 points. He said he wants his team to average about 1.5 points per offensive board.POLL IMPLICATIONSLouisville did exactly what it was supposed to do against an overmatched opponent and did nothing that would shake voters confidence in the teams current ranking.UP NEXTLouisville hosts Chattanooga Monday night.Lafayette plays Bowling Green on Monday in Louisville. Harvin made the announcement on his Twitter account on Tuesday night, hours after getting a second opinion on the injury in New York. The Seahawks then said the operation was scheduled for Thursday, but no timetable for recovery was provided. Harvin was seeking more information about the hip soreness in the area of his labrum that popped up just before the Seahawks opened training camp. Harvin noted the discomfort when he reported for camp last Wednesday. "When everything is goin good sometimes life throw u a curve ball... sorry to half to report that my injury will require surgery," Harvin wrote on his Twitter page. "Nobody was more anxious and excited about season then....but I will be back strong as ever." Seattle coach Pete Carroll has not indicated which hip is bothering Harvin. He said earlier in the day that the team was still gathering information about Harvins second opinion. Harvin started training camp on the physically unable to perform list and likely will remain there until the team has a better idea of his recovery time. If Harvin starts the season on the PUP list he must miss the first six weeks and would have to return to practice by the end of Week 11 to avoid missing the entire season. The loss of Harvin is significant, but not a huge setback for a team that relies on the legs of Marshawn Lynch and timely passing by Russell Wilson to drive its offence. Seattle invested significantly in Harvin, giving up draft picks to acquire him from Minnesota and signing him to a six-year deal reportedly worth up to $67 million. But Seattles offence averaged 32.9 points over the final nine games of last season without Harvin.dddddddddddd If the Seahawks need a timeline of how the recovery might go, they only need to look at fellow Seattle receiver Sidney Rice, who underwent hip surgery in August 2010, and then returned to action in Week 11 after missing the first 2 1/2 months of the season. While Harvin was in New York on Tuesday, Rice was in Europe undergoing a procedure to help his knee, Carroll said. The procedure is non-surgical and Rice was expected to return to practice once he arrived back in Seattle. Carroll seemed so unconcerned about Rices procedure he jokingly asked reporters to guess where Rice was. Rice had been limited in practice the last few days before heading to Switzerland for the procedure. While Carroll didnt get into specifics, he said its focused on addressing a muscle around Rices knee and this was the only time available to have the procedure done. "He was practicing fine when he was out here but this was a procedure that theyve been waiting to do," Carroll said. "When he comes back here hell go right back on the field. He didnt get hurt. Were just trying to help him along and we think we have something going here that might really help him." Seattle also was without defensive end Cliff Avril, offensive tackle Michael Bowie and cornerback Ron Parker. All three players are dealing with hamstring issues that will keep them sidelined a few days. NOTES: Seattle released TE Victor Marshall and re-signed LB/TE Jameson Konz following Tuesdays practice. Konz was originally selected by Seattle in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft. He appeared in one game in 2011 before injuring his knee and landing on injured reserve. ... DE Michael Bennett was absent from practice to attend to the birth of his child. ' ' '
